SUPPLYONE
ACQUIRES WEIDNER PLASTICS, INC.
Seventh
Acquisition Expands Mid-Atlantic Presence and Product Offerings
Devon, Pennsylvania, July 20, 2000 - SupplyOne, the Devon, Pennsylvania-based consolidator of specialty
packaging manufacturers and packaging equipment and supply distributors,
announced today that it has acquired Reading, Pennsylvania based Weidner
Plastics, Inc., a thermoformer of polystyrene and polyvinyl packaging
products.
William T. Leith, President and Chief
Executive Officer of SupplyOne, said, “I am particularly excited about the
Weidner acquisition because it adds a new dimension to SupplyOne's interior
packaging capabilities.”
SupplyOne’s acquisitions to date have
been primarily manufacturers and distributors of corrugated, film or foam
packaging. Weidner is SupplyOne’s seventh packaging acquisition, but
the first that specializes in thermoformed plastic packaging products, which
are used in conjunction with other packaging materials for shipment of
high-end, delicate electronic components.
“Weidner has a long-standing reputation for quality products and
outstanding customer service, particularly in the telecommunication and
electronics industries,” Leith noted. “Their
expertise will enable us to expand our product offering to customers not only
throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, but nationally as well.”
SupplyOne’s strategy is to acquire
well-run, profitable companies which are recognized leaders in their local
market areas and which are seeking to diversify their risk and play an
important part in a larger organization.
As core companies are established in major geographies, SupplyOne
supplements them with smaller acquisitions, which enhance the core company’s
market areas and product offering. This
strategy allows SupplyOne to maximize synergies and cost savings while
expanding their national presence.
Weidner will operate as a part of Granite
Packaging, SupplyOne’s core acquisition in the Mid-Atlantic region.
“Weidner is an outstanding fit with Granite,” Leith emphasized.
“Their product lines complement one another, and they already share a
common major account. Weidner
will utilize Granite’s knowledgeable sales force to enhance its growth, and
Granite will benefit from an enhanced product line that fits with its core
competency of custom-designed packaging solutions, whether in foam, corrugated
or, now, plastic.”
SupplyOne’s goal is to build an
unparalleled, integrated network that serves customers across the United
States with one-stop packaging solutions, from box design and interior product
protection to closure systems and load unitizing.
The SupplyOne network of outstanding companies will provide customers
with everything in, on and around the box - including the box itself.
